Guarnaschelli was born to Maria Guarnaschelli, and John Guarnaschelli. In 1991, she was a graduate of Barnard College with an art history degree. In 1991 , she was employed for minimal wage at a bar named an American Place for one year. Guarnaschelli's first culinary experiences began while watching her mother test numerous recipes in her kitchen while editing books. Guarnaschelli started her career working with Larry Forgione. Her son Marc Forgione was the Iron Chef. Guarnaschelli then went on to be employed at several restaurants throughout France as well as Los Angeles. Guy Savoy manages La Butte Chaillot. Before joining Butter Guarnaschelli, she was Executive Chef at the Patina restaurant run by Daniel Boulud and at Joachim Splichal's Patina. The restaurant was closed in the summer of 2005. she served as the executive chef of The Darby. Chair of the Museum for Food and Drink's Culinary Council. Guarnaschelli has released her first book in the year 2013. "Old School Comfort Food: What I learned to Cook" comprises memoirs and favourite recipes that Guarnaschelli adapted from her professional career.
