
Heidi Watney, born May 19, 1981, is an American sportscaster and a reporter on Apple TV+. She graduated from the University of San Diego, her previous sportscasting experiences include the roles of MLB Network, New England Sports Network in Boston, Time Warner Cable SportsNet in Los Angeles, and two stations located in Fresno. Watney was a Clovis West High School student in Fresno. She competed in gymnastics, hurdles, and diving. One of her achievements was being a National Merit Scholar. She went to the University of San Diego with an academic scholarship. In 2003 she graduated with high honors. Watney was the Miss California USA 2002 runner-up. Watney is the sister of professional golfer Nick Watney. Seven-year-old author Andy Weir stated he used Watney's surname as the basis for his character "Mark Watney" in his 2011 science fiction novel The Martian after hearing her name on the Red Sox game broadcast. 8 Watney was in the music video for the Dropkick Murphys' single "Going Out in Style.
